Ginny, a good friend of mine posted this on facebook. When I initially read it I thought there was a lot of meaning there, but in the back of my mind something was bugging me and I couldn't put my finger on it. I reread the article and stared at a certain paragraph for a while. I left it alone. I did some work. I went to the watercooler. Something was bugging me. Then while I am sitting in my hotel room alone it occurred to me.

"The point of staying married until [one of] you die is to have a witness to your whole life, to the meaning you built [together]."

There fixed it.

While the 2nd person plural might be implied, I think it needs stating. Al Gore wouldn't have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize if it wasn't for Tipper. (The appropriateness of said Peace prize for some Environmentalism as determined by politicians in Oslo is beyond the scope of this, but certainly her role in it isn't.) By not stating it, I think the author comes dangerously close to being a bit selfish, and I believe that more than anything will kill a marriage. I am willing to bet that when little Al's selfishness (Be it in the form of Lust, Greed or Pride) got the best of him is when their marriage began to fall apart.

The sum of our lives is the product of our work together. Her success is directly related to my support. My goal is for my wife to achieve more than she could without me, because she has done that for me.
